Reclaiming an Industry (Excerpt):

Once Pratt has invested a dealership, he remains loyal to that site and continues to train its employees indefinitely - unless there are any ethics violations. When hiring or acquiring new dealerships, Pratt looks for stability, integrity, physical stamina and a diligent work ethic. Even though BT is a great working environment that offers competitive benefits and paid vacation, only about 20 percent of field employees stay at the company for the long haul, says Pratt, citing the grueling physical demands of the field as the reason. Office, sales and management staff is obviously quite different and the retention rates are much higher.

“It’s a unique type of man that does this type of field work,” says Pratt. “It’s one of the hardest types of labor that you can imagine.”
