Mold grows in damp environments and produces spores that can contaminate the air quality of a property, necessitating the need for mold removal. Problems are often realized when individuals in an affected home or business begin experiencing allergy or asthma like symptoms as a result of the spores entering their lungs.
Our Approach to Mold Removal
Our process begins with the ultimate goal of physically removing mold related contamination, not just “treating” it. There is a popular misconception that certain chemicals (i.e. bleach) will kill mold and solve the problem. However, the reality is that even dead mold spores can be allergenic if left on a surface. We do not recommended using bleach or other harsh chemicals as they tend to create an even more toxic environment and can potentially mask the issue.
Therefore, we focus on safely removing the materials that host the mold. If physical removal is not possible, treating the area in such a way that little or no spores are left behind, such as HEPA vacuuming and encapsulation, are taken.
Additionally, we use only EPA-approved anti-microbial products and follow guidelines set forth in the EPA’s Mold Removal for Schools and Commercial Buildings, as well as the current industry standard known as The IICRC S520 Guideline for Professional Mold Remediation.
What Causes Mold in the First Place?
Excessive moisture and delayed property maintenance is the leading cause of mold and water damage. It is not uncommon to see buildings and homes that are more than 50 years old with the same mechanical systems in place as when the structure was built. In addition to outdated mechanicals, faulty roofing, windows and ventilation systems often play a large role in mold problems.
The list goes on and on, but the result is always the same – expensive repairs. We recommend that basic mold inspections be performed annually to avoid minor issues that can become major problems down the road. Often an inspection with little to no cost can save thousands in the long run.
